China's aircraft carrier returns from 10th sea trial

Dalian (CNS) -- China's first aircraft carrier finished its 10th sea trial Thursday.

The refitted Ukrainian vessel "Varyag" was escorted by five tugboats into the harbor of Dalian in Liaoning Province at 9:30 in the morning.

The trial started on August 27 and lasted less than 70 hours, making it the Varyag's shortest so far, possibly due to Typhoon Bolaven. Its ninth trial, the longest, lasted 25 days.

The Liaoning Maritime Safety Administration imposed a sea curfew from the morning of August 27 to the afternoon of August 30 to prevent other vessels from entering the trial area.

The carrier began trials in August last year.
