Beijing (CNS) -- The popularity of microblogs is a reflection of a rapidly developing society, and the phenomenon demands more innovative social management, some experts have said.

"I appreciate that the government has taken a positive attitude toward networking. But it needs to learn to talk to netizens, not just try to influence and control their actions online," said Gong Fangbin, professor at the National University of Defense Technology.

A microblog gives an individual a personal space, which makes it tempting to be wicked or controversial online, said Zhou Kai, dean of the Radio, Television and New Media Department at Nanjing University.

The number of microblog users in China has exceeded 300 million. Many of them, like popular actress and "microblog queen" Yao Chen, post bold expressions to attract attention.
