Yantai (CNS) -- A test by the "China National Wine and Liquor Quality Inspection Center" (中国国家葡萄酒及白酒、露酒产品质量监督检验中心) shows that domestic wine products are safe and reliable, said Zhu Jiyi, the center's director, on Friday.

Zhu's statement came in response to an online rumor that some domestic wine brands contain excessive amounts of cancer-causing pesticides.

Zhu said that tiny amounts of metalaxyl and carbendazim were found in some products during the recent inspection, but far less than the maximum allowed by Chinese and EU standards.
