Hong Kong (CNS) -- A preferential policy enacted in Hong Kong means the disabled and those above 65 years of age can ride on certain buses for a mere two HK dollars.

Leung Chun-ying, chief executive of the Hong Kong SAR visited a bus stop at Shau Kei Wan to witness the first day's implementation. Some senior bus passengers told Liang that they used to avoid going out because of the expense and missed some chances to meet with friends and family members, not to mention venturing out to study calligraphy, do volunteer work, or see the occasional film. They are apparently delighted by the freedom to expand their social network and enjoy their retirement on a limited transportation budget.

Leung said the government pays attention to every detail of civil life, and will continue to offer appropriate assistance to seniors, people with disabilities and any disadvantaged group.
