Xiamen (CNS) -- Crews on a Shanghai oil tanker were saved in the waters near southeast China's Fujian province by Jinmen and Xiamen maritime patrols.

Water seepage occurred when the tanker sailed through a typhoon near Beiding Island of Jinmen, and Maritime Search and Rescue Centre of Hainan put a rescue plan in action as soon as they received the call for help. Rescue vessels from Jinmen of Taiwan and Xiamen raced to the area, and ships nearby also assisted.

As of 7 p.m., eight of the thirteen mariners had been transferred to a petrol ship and the other 5 crews stayed on board when the tanker drew into to a nearby harbor. There was no oil spill.
