Beijing (CNS)--A father in Central China's Hunan Province has started to raise his own goats in a bid to provide his baby with cheap yet high-quality milk, reported China News Service on Wednesday.

Domestic milk brands have been tainted by a series of scandals, but imported milk power options are subject to continuous price surges. Not only that, but in mid-July, 9.63 tons of milk powder imported from Germany and New Zealand were destroyed by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine due to non-standard labeling.

Experts say that besides the efforts made by individual consumers, the related regulatory authority should also play a role in developing a healthy dairy market for China.

"Domestic brands should devote themselves to enhancing product quality and R&D pipelines to restore consumer confidence," added Chen Sanyou, the director of the China Milk Association.
