Females outnumber and outshine in Hong Kong

Hong Kong (CNS) -- There are more women than men in Hong Kong. Females are not only a major force in the island's shopping malls, restaurants and bars, but also contribute more in the workplace.

Hong Kong is home to 3,768,000 females outnumbering the males by 455,600 in 2011, says the SAR's Census and Statistics Department. And the female population has an absolute advantage in size for the 20 to 59 age groups.

Not surprisingly, more females shoulder directorate positions in the civil service, and they increased from 208 in 2006, to 414 in 2011, while the males tumbled down from 1,147 to 843 during the same period.
