Yajiang (CNS) -- A deposit of pottery figurines made by the White Wolf Tribe from the ninth century AD have been unearthed in the former site of ancient temple, in Yajiang County, Sichuan Province, the local bureau of cultural relics said on Friday.

The pottery figurines are the only batch of cultural relics relating to the tribe of White Wolf as yet found, thus of great value for academic study, said the archaeologist Wen Yucheng.

The earliest mention of the ancient tribe was in Han Shu, a history book of the Han Dynasty. It is recorded that envoys of the Han Dynasty visited the tribe and brought with them salt and silk, and the king of the tribe at that time wrote a poem to express his appreciation.
