Sydney (CNS) -- The stunning design of the Chinatown information kiosk in Sydney recently won a prestigious architecture award given by New South Wales (NSW) New South Wales (NSW) in the Small Project Architecture category. The renovation is part of the city's Chinatown Public Domain Plan.

An unused pagoda was transformed by Chinese designers in time for this year's Chinese New Year celebrations. Designed on the basis of a contemporary form of traditional Chinese paper-cutting techniques, it has been serving the disabled, tourists and locals with a delightful bright red glow at night.

Clover Moore, Lord Mayor of the City of Sydney congratulated the designers, engineers and workers at the award ceremony and remarked that "This is one of the many ways we're recognising Sydney's rich Chinese history and the importance of Chinese culture to our city today."

The city's 10-year vision for the transformation of Chinatown has also seen a $5 million makeover of three laneways in the heart of Haymarket - Little Hay Street, Factory Street and Kimber Lane.
