Female executives create more profits: Mckinsey  

麦肯锡报告称女性高管更能提高企业盈利

全球知名管理咨询公司麦肯锡2日在沪发布最新报告称,女性高管比例高的公司往往能取得更好的绩效,企业执行委员会中女性成员占比高的企业比没有女性的企业资本回报率高出近50%。

Shanghai (CNS) -- Leading consulting firm McKinsey released a report on Monday that companies with more female executives often achieve superior performance, and those with a heavier female presence in the executive make 50 percent more return on invested capital.

The report on the Asian view of the significance of women leaders analysed boards of directors and their gender composition . The sample of 744 companies in 10 Asian markets included the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and Korea; 90 of the 744 are Chinese public firms.

By 2011, women on the boards and in the executive councils of Chinese companies had reached eight and nine percent respectively. Their presence is slightly above the Asian average yet far lower than the 17 percent and 10 percent in Europe and 15 percent and 14 percent in the U.S.

Women take up more than half of grassroots positions, but gradually fall behind in their professional development, pointed out Claudia Süssmuth-Dyckerhoff, Director with the McKinsey Shanghai Office.

On the one hand, Chinese women are burdened with both work and family responsibilities, as in most Asian countries, and frequently give up their career for the sake of their families; on the other hand, lack of professional women models and vital networks for promotion also account for their failure to enter the higher ranks of management.

The bias still exists that prompts male supervisors to give male applicants higher grades than their less ambitious opposite gender. But the unique leadership style and behavior mode of women benefits an organization structure and its financial performance, pointed out the report.

Tripartite efforts from the government, the business sphere and companies themselves are necessary to realize an increase in women executives, added McKinsey partner Wang Jin.
