Yunnan (CNS) -- Yunnan Province has cracked down on a number of drug trafficking rings in the last five years, thanks to sound cooperation mechanisms established with neighboring countries such as Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam and Thailand, according to the local police on June 26.

To combat cross-border drug trafficking and do so with efficiency, Yunnan police organized nearly 600 meetings with their counterparts in Myanmar, Laos and North Vietnam.

Besides the enhanced narcotics force, policies helping farmers plant alternatives to the opium poppy was also effective at curbing drug trafficking at its root industry.

Related statistics reveal over one hundred Yunnan enterprises invested nearly 2.2 billion yuan in poppy replacement projects covering 270,000 hectares in Myanmar and North Laos.
