Qingdao (CNS) -- The Maritime Safety Administration of China, the International Maritime Organization, and the International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association (IPIECA) held a symposium Tuesday to work out the multilateral cooperation that will increase China's capability to respond to oil spill emergencies at sea.
The three parties originally signed a letter of intent in July of 2007 to promote this emergency response cooperation.
The recent symposium touches specifically on critical topics of significant concern to China - emergency response to oil spills in and around Chinese waters.
China's ability to deal with coastal and inland waterway pollution has improved dramatically, yet in terms of large-scale oil spills, it still has to catch up with current strategies through international cooperation.
