Xiamen (CNS) -- The world's first second generation two-dimensional (2D) bar code, the "China Chip" is a domestic product that will be applied to the Internet of Things in the second half of the year, according to the 4th Cross-Straits Forum held on Sunday afternoon.

The Newland Group registered in Fujian Province worked out the hi-tech chip in cooperation with the United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) in Taiwan, and is now the subject of 120 Chinese patents and 30 international patents.

The Newland Group marched into the Taiwan market in July 2009 and launched its first 2D product in the region in 2010.

Sixteen other science and technology cooperations were signed at the forum, which was attended by Xu Xiangde and Wang Sijing of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, along with celebrated representatives from Taiwan universities.
