Retired teacher translates 'The Analects' into English

Fuzhou (CNS) -- Retired teacher Wu Guozhen's English translation of Chinese classic "The Analects of Confucius" was published in May, Wu told CNS on Monday. This adds to a collection of more than 30 English versions of the ancient witty quotations.

The new translation, a rare version with full notes all in English, a detailed Confucius biography and explanations of 21 important terms, was presented as a gift to the Confucius School in the University of Ottawa by the Chinese Embassy.

Starting the project in 2005, Wu bought nearly a dozen Chinese versions of the analects, and spent seven years studying and translating the classic.

"The Analects of Confucius" was introduced abroad early in the 3rd century, and has long been considered a door to Chinese culture.
