Beijing (CNS) -- A batch of 50 bicycles have been customized for government officials to use on short trips to advocate "saving energy, low carbon, and green development," the theme of China's 22nd "national energy-saving publicity week" which began on Sunday and runs till June 16.

The campaign was jointly organized by 14 ministries and commissions, including the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Education.

The bicycles bear logos reading "public bicycle," "low-carbon transport, and green travel," and are equipped with baskets for carrying files and documents.

An energy-saving proposal by the government was released at the beginning of the year, appealing to the public to use the "135" travel mode. Citizens are advised to walk within 1 km, ride a bicycle within 3 km and take public transport within 5 km.
