Taipei (CNS) -- Over 80 percent of homosexuals in Taiwan want to get married and be protected by related laws, according to a survey released on Thursday.

The survey sponsored by multiple civil societies was conducted from May 21 to June 3 via 2,045 questionnaires.

The survey finds that 84 percent of homosexuals desire a trustworthy relationship with a single partner, and over 90 percent are eager for the legalization of gay marriage.

Among the interviewees, 40 percent have been in relationships for more than a year, and only 5 percent are completely open to sexual relationships. 36 percent worry their partners are infected with sexually transmitted diseases.
