Painting ‘Mountains in Red’ fetches 293 mln yuan   

李可染《万山红遍》近3亿成交 创其拍卖纪录

在3日北京保利2012春拍近现代书画夜场中,著名画家李可染的《万山红遍》以2.9325亿元人民币成交,刷新其个人作品拍卖纪录,目前是今春拍场上单品成交额最高的中国艺术品。

Beijing (CNS) -- A painting called "Mountains in Red" created by renowned artist Li Keran in 1964 sold for 293.25 million yuan (US$46.04 million) at the Modern Chinese Paintings and Calligraphies Evening Sale held by the Beijing Poly International Auction Company on Sunday.

The work was the single most expensive item at this year's spring auction.

Li painted the masterpiece after being "enlightened" by a poem written by late leader Mao Zedong. It is regarded as a milestone in his artistic life.

Li created altogether seven pieces from the same period. The one at the auction is the biggest and most valuable.
