Wanda’s acquisition of AMC one small step

Beijing (CNS) -- Wanda's recent acquisition of the world's second largest movie theatre chain AMC Theatres raised the hope that China's domestic productions will be widely marketed and better accepted across the world.

Wanda Group signed the agreement with AMC on Monday. The buyout means the Chinese giant has swallowed 10 percent of the global cinema market.

However, experts offer the reminder that the purchase is far from a sign that Chinese films are close to making a global splash.

This was just a small step en route to the globalization goal, in the opinion of Professor Zhou Kai at Nanjing University. Strategic support from the state and related endeavors by the domestic film industry are what matter most.

Wanda Group president Wang Jianlin also admits that with respect to China's film ambitions, the quality of our movies count more than anything else.
