Qufu (CNS) -- Shandong Province has officially launched 88 historic site protection projects at a budget of more than 10 billion yuan (US$1.58 billion). The launch ceremony was held at the historic palace zone of the ancient Lu State (circa 1042-249BC) on Monday.

Some 100 Chinese and foreign experts participating in the ongoing 2nd Nishan Forum on World Civilizations attended the ceremony. Vice Minister of Culture Li Xiaojie and Provincial Governor Jiang Daming unveiled the project which is expected to be completed in 20 years.

The plan mainly covers three state archaeological parks based on the historic site of the Lu State, a water project built during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), and the Dawenkou historic site. Several Confucian cultural relics are also included.
