Lanzhou (CNS) -- As the International Day of Families dawned on May 14, family issues once again became the focus of public discussion.
Modern families are acting out a new-type of violence –maintaining a climate of indifference and neglect towards each other. This phenomenon is especially obvious in families of intellectuals, said Mo Xingbang, vice chairman of Gansu Province Counselors Society (GPCS) on May 16.
Ma Xiaojia from Lanzhou born in the 1980s, said he and his wife once created a record of not talking to each other for over thirty days, and he now feels they are on the verge of divorce.
According to GPCS, 80 percent of the couples interviewed for the study described this sort of cold violence, 50 percent of them abused each other, and 30 percent of females reported suffering physical violence.
Mo said a cold war is a form of spiritual violence in marriage. He suggested both sides could at least communicate with each other via text message, emails and so on.
