Shanghai establishes mathematics center

Shanghai (CNS) -- Shanghai on Sunday established a center for mathematics at the Jiangwan campus of Fudan University.

Shanghai CPC Secretary Yu Zhengsheng, Mayor Han Zheng, and Deputy Minister of Education Du Zhanyuan attended the founding ceremony.

China's prestigious mathematician Gu Chaohao had suggested such a center to President Hu Jintao in 2010 to promote nationwide math studies and education, as well as international interactions.

The center will be dedicated to math applications in life and computer sciences, as well as other fields such as finance and engineering.
