Beijing (CNS) -- China's first movie on Tibetan Thangka art premiered in Beijing on Monday.

"Thangka" describes how several masters of this traditional genre of religious painting passed on the art, which embodies Tibetan history, politics, culture and society. Thangka art is listed as one of China's national intangible cultural heritages.

The film engagingly tells viewers of the unique charm of this venerable art and the natural beauty of the Tibetan culture that gave birth to it.

The State Council Information Office and some other central offices have expressed their appreciation by selecting "Thangka" to open the second China's Ethnic Minority Languages Film Festival.
