Washington (CNS) -- Chinese authorities are considering a new policy that would allow foreign students to do part-time work in China, an official said on May 3.

Liu Jinghui, secretary-general of China Scholarship Council, alluded to the possible change at an international meeting he attended in Washington. Liu added the ministries of education, foreign affairs, public security, finance and so held a special joint meeting to discuss this issue last year.

Related regulations for foreigners currently only recognize those over 25 years of age with a bachelor degree and a minimum of two years work experience as sufficiently qualified to obtain a work visa. The current policy means it is difficult for many foreign students to legally obtain a job of any kind in China.

Liu said, foreigners studying in China are a significant component of the country's internationalization and as such enrich the cultural diversity of the nation, so authorities are working to make their life here easier.
