Shanxi to launch lead accumulator industrial chain

Taiyuan (CNS) -- China's first complete eco-friendly lead accumulator industrial chain is in the beta test phase in Yangquan, Shanxi Province. When fully functioning, the patented chain will be capable of disposing of 200,000 tons of used lead acid batteries and recycling more than 99.9 percent of the materials, CNS reported on Wednesday.

The disposal facilities were introduced from Germany and Italy for an investment of 1.5 billion yuan and use the world's most advanced water dissolution technology. It will at the same time serve the purpose of lead battery production, accomplishing the whole cycle of lead accumulator production, recycling, harmless disposal and resource reuse.

China is now producing about 45 percent of world's lead accumulators and contributing one third of those used in the newly-emerged electric vehicle sector. The Chinese government is likely to set up a threshold for the lead accumulator industry in order to control its environmental impacts.
