Beijing (CNS) -- Yang Erjing, 27, fell into a pit of scalding hot water while walking on a suddenly collapsed pavement in Xicheng District, on April 1. On Monday evening, a week after her rescue, Jishuitan Hospital announced the young woman did not survive her burns.

According to its official Weibo, the Xicheng government attributed the accident to negligence on the part of those responsible for the regional heat distribution pipeline.

Beijing District Heating Group claims they had sent notification of unsafe conditions to the property owner Wuhua Plaza much earlier than the occurrence. The latter has not yet commented on the matter.

A special investigation team is still working on the final report, according to the district authority. Other municipal administrative bodies are urged to investigate and repair insecure pipelines.
