Shenzhen (CNS) –-  The first electric auto co-developed by Chinese and German auto companies, the DENZA, was released on Friday.

A joint venture by BYD Auto and Daimler AG located in Shenzhen, gave birth to the new auto after nearly two years' preparation. It is expected the DENZA will be put on sale in 2012.

Environmental pollution and energy shortages triggered a growth in demand for the electric car, said Hua Lixin, chairman of the joint venture, and the Chinese market for electric cars has great potential.

Hua added their company will focus on producing high-end electric cars suitable for Chinese market demands.
