Shortest intervals of capital metros almost floor level

Beijing (CNS) -- The shortest intervals between trains on the capital Metro lines 5 and 10 have shrunk to two and a half minutes as of Wednesday, just 30 seconds more than the official floor level. More train sets have been added to these routes.

Line 4 had its shortest internal cut to two minutes and 10 seconds on Tuesday, the fifth reduction since it started operating. Line 1 and Line 2 are already running at 2 and 2 minute, 5 second levels.

All efforts are being made to speed up municipal metro flows during peak hours. Though measures are having some effect, it's just not enough for an urban underground network with an average daily load of seven million.

During an interview with reporters from the web portal of the municipal government (http://www.beijing.gov.cn/) last year, Director Liu Xiaoming of the capital transport commission said he supported the adjustments and considered them feasible, based on foreign transportation cases where the shortest internals are less than two minutes. For the sake of safety, he also pledged to set 2 minutes as a strict floor time for the moment.
