Shanghai (CNS) -- The railway authority increased the number of high-speed trains on the Shanghai-Hangzhou and Shanghai-Nanjing lines by eight, in operation as of Saturday, in time to handle heavier passenger loads due to tomb-sweeping day.

After the adjustment, weekend traffic consists of 74 pairs of trains running on the Nanjing line and 37 on the Hangzhou line, to serve an expected passenger load of 8.1 million. The Shanghai Station is sharing part of the load with Hongqiao Railway Station.

Apart from these two lines, 13 pairs of trains were added to the Shanghai-Beijing high-speed railway line, and 28.5 other pairs to normal lines.

The city's major railway stations, the Shanghai, the Shanghai South and the Shanghai Hongqiao, have all set up special meeting areas for residents to pick up their friends and relatives, facilitated with volunteers.
