Shenzhen police bust local branch of HK gang

Shenzhen (CNS) -- Shenzhen police said yesterday they had arrested at least 102 key gang members in the city's Baoan District connected to Son Yee On, a major Hong Kong triad, and that some hundred million yuan in assets had been frozen.

Son Yee On has been active in racketeering, counterfeiting, extortion, narcotics, human trafficking and prostitution in Hong Kong, Guangdong, the UK, the US, France, Belgium, and the Netherlands, according to local police.

Shenzhen deputy police chief Wang Guobin said the leader of the gang's Shajing branch, Chen Yaodong, and other key members had been arrested.

The organization expanded to Guangdong in the late 1980s and the war between local police and the criminal gang has raged continuously.

Police said they are using every means to find more details and apprehend suspects on the run. They have also reached out to the Hong Kong public security authority for mutual assistance.
