Beijing (CNS) – Sexual transmission is now recognized as the leading trigger in the spread of AIDS in China, an official document disclosed on Wednesday.

According to the report on AIDS prevention plans released by the general office of the state council, AIDS transmission is more prevalent now and sexual intercourse is the major cause.

Men who have sex with men have higher rates of infection, but transmission cases between spouses are also on the rise. Regions that have no education campaigns about mother-to-child transmission are also showing relatively high transmission rates.

The plan proposed concrete goals for AIDS control deemed achievable by the end of 2015: effective prevention covering 90-percent of high-risk groups, automatic condoms dispensers to be placed at 95-percent or more of hotels, a minimum of 70 percent of HIV-test takers will be informed of results.
