Beijing (CNS) – By 2015, the State Grid Corporation of China (State Grid) will implement a project to illuminate and power up the homes of two million people currently without access to electricity, according to its society responsibility report issued on Tuesday.

It will be a long haul to live life with the lights on, said an official from the State Grid on Tuesday.

The State Gird brought electricity to five million people between 2006 and 2010, but with the expansion of service areas, they are constantly playing catch up with new settlements that are without this essential modern convenience.

According to the report, in 2011, the State Grid will lead 96,000 households out of 19th century conditions and what's more, begin to propel some of its denser service areas into the 21st with smart gird enhancements. The conversions will require an investment of 300 billion yuan.
