Books written in traditional Chinese popular on mainland

2012-02-20 13:10 CNS       Web Editor: Zang Kejia comment

Beijing (CNS) –Gu Qing, deputy editor-in-chief of Zhonghua Book Company, says that Chinese mainland publishers have never stopped publishing books written in traditional Chinese characters, even though simplified characters have been promoted for over half a century.

"We constantly publish books of traditional Chinese characters, mainly for research," says Gu. "And in recent years, more and more readers have been searching for such books."

Publishers include the century-old Zhonghua Book Company, Shanghai Guji, Bashu Shushe and others, he added.

Whether to use traditional or simplified Chinese characters has been widely discussed in the Chinese community. Regarding this, Gu says he favors using the simplified versions while also being capable of recognizing the traditional ones.
