Taipei (CNS) -- Netizens are henceforth allowed to make their payments to online shops registered in Taiwan via the China UnionPay (CUP) online payment platform, announced CUP President Su Ning and President Wang Rongzhou of Taiwan's credit card center on Wednesday.

So far, businesses that have adopted the service are PChome Online, the South East Travel Service, the Yoho Beach Club and Spa, and the Humanistic Culture and Education Foundation, covering a wide variety of purchases such as online shopping, hotel and flight booking and travel route design. The cooperation options are likely to expand in the near future to include making donations.

Since e-commerce cooperation was first initiated in August 2009, CUP services have already been put to use by half of the island's merchants and integrated with 80 percent of its ATMs.

Su said CUP transactions are rapidly developing in Taiwan, and becoming the "most remarkable part" of financial cooperation between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan.
