Nanchang (CNS) - A single bottle of Maotai liquor produced in 1966 fetched 260,000 yuan (US$41,227) at the Second Aged Liquor Auction in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on January 15. A total of 135 bottles of different brands of liquor were selected for the auction, including Maotai, Wuliangye, Jiannanchun and Fen Jiu.

The price of Maotai liquor has dropped recently, said Chen Mingjun from Jiangxi Jin Xin Auction, adding that unreasonably high prices were reached thanks to some speculative trades in the first half of 2011.

The auction attracted many bidders from Hong Kong, Fujian, Zhejiang, Jiangxi and Guangdong. "Aged liquor has great potential to rise in value, so it makes sense to invest spare cash in it", said a bidder from Zhejiang.
