Guiyang (CNS) – Bottles of China's signature Moutai liquor attracted wide attention when a starting price of 1 million yuan was set at auction for the oldest one stored 70 years. A total of 600 bottles were brought into the auction on December 4. Moutai is considered China's national liquor and is usually trotted out for state banquet and high-end consumers.

The auction house had collected Moutai liquor produced in different decades, from the 1950s to the 1990s, including predecessors Wuxing liquor and Feitian liquor. "All 600 bottles were selected from a round up of 800 bottles labeled Moutai liquor", an unnamed official with the auction company confirmed.
