Nanning (CNS) – China has deepened its cooperation with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in terms of education. A number of universities in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region have signed agreements with nations such as Vietnam, Laos and the Thailand, said the spokesman for Guangxi Education Administration Li Qingxian on December 29.

He added that about 7,000 international students are studying in Guangxi at present, but almost 6,000 are from Southeast Asia, and the Vietnamese account for 4,000. Meanwhile, more than 5,000 Chinese students have gone to Southeast Asian countries as part of some exchange projects being implemented by Guangxi.

Gao Feng, director of Guangxi Education Administration, said that the number of exchange students representing Guangxi and Southeast Asian countries will reach 30,000 by 2015, positioning Guangxi to become the human resource training base for Guangxi-ASEAN in the next decade.
