The world's largest car carrier the Shenzhen was officially delivered and set sail from East China's Jiangsu Province on Tuesday, state broadcaster CCTV reported. The vessel is scheduled to complete vehicle loading at Taicang Port in the province this week before heading to Brazil.
Measuring 219.9 meters in length and 37.7 meters in width, the vessel has 16 decks and can carry up to 9,200 vehicles. It is the largest car carrier currently in operation, according to the report.
Equipped with the latest LNG dual-fuel clean power technology, the vessel also features energy-efficient main engines, a recondensing system, and a range of other green technologies, making it 37 percent more carbon-efficient than the baseline required by the International Maritime Organization's latest environmental standards.
This is also the fourth large car carrier owned and operated by BYD, China's electric vehicle giant, said the report.
To meeting growing global demand, China's vehicle exports surpassed 5 million units last year, said Fu Bingfeng, an executive vice-president and secretary general of the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, according to CCTV.
Cui Dongshu, secretary general of the China Passenger Car Association, wrote Tuesday on his personal official WeChat account that Brazil is not only among the top 10 destinations for China's vehicle exports in 2025 but also ranked in the top 10 for new energy vehicle exports during the first quarter of the year.
Belgium, Mexico, Brazil and Southeast Asian countries are major new energy vehicle markets for 2025, Cui wrote.
