Shenzhen and Shanghai remain China's top cities in terms of new energy industry concentration level, according to the list of Hurun China New Energy Cities 2023 that was released on Monday.

Suzhou grabbed the third place, followed by Beijing and Changzhou tied for fourth place on the list.

Guangzhou increased to the sixth place this year while Wuhan decreased to the seventh position, followed by Chengdu who performed better this year than the previous year.

Tianjin is a new comer to the top 10 list while Hefei's position decreased to the tenth this year.

This is the second consecutive year for Hurun Research Institute to release such a list.

China's new energy industry, especially the photovoltaic industry, has been developing rapidly.

China's wind and photovoltaic power generation exceeded 1 trillion kWh for the first time last year, an increase of 21 percent year-on-year.

In the first quarter of this year, the national photovoltaic new scale increased by 155 percent, equivalent to the total of new installed capacity in the first half of last year.

The China Electricity Council predicts that China's total installed PV capacity will officially surpass hydropower in 2023, and become the second largest power source in the country.

Under the 'double carbon' goal, the accelerated pace of energy emission reduction and low-carbon transformation will inevitably accelerate the reshaping of China's traditional energy structure, shared Rupert Hoogewerf, chairman and chief researcher of Hurun Report.
