An ultra-high-voltage power line, which will transmit electricity from Xinjiang to the east of China, is under construction.

The 598-km-long Xinjiang section of the 1100 kv transmission line was completed on Thursday, said the Xinjiang branch of State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC).

The entire line will be about 3,324 kilometers long.

It will set a new record in terms of voltage level, transmission capacity and distance, the company said.

Total investment is 40 billion yuan (about 6.4 billion U.S. dollars). Construction started in January, 2016.

The line passes through Xinjiang, Gansu, Ningxia, Shaanxi, Henan and Anhui. The power project is expected to be operational by year end.

The line will provide enough power to light up four billion light bulbs at the same time, the company said. Annual power transmission will be 66 billion kilowatt hours, cutting 30 million tonnes of coal transport.

An 800 kv ultra-high voltage direct current transmission line between Xinjiang and central China's Henan Province went operational in 2014.
