Chen Fan, director of Hong Kong's Transport and Housing Bureau, said on Monday that the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link's Hong Kong section will run 114 trains daily in the early peak days after the rail link starts operation, according to media reports.
The full railway timetable will be decided later, a report from domestic news site chinanews.com cited Chen as saying on Monday.
Chen also noted that he hoped relevant mainland railway stations can roll out measures to facilitate Hong Kong residents' ticket purchasing, according to the report.
Construction of the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link's Hong Kong section, which started in April 2010, is expected to be finished in the third quarter of 2018, said media reports.
The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in July revealed a one-stop boundary control arrangement, which allowed passengers to go through customs, immigration and quarantine procedures of both Hong Kong and the mainland at the West Kowloon Station in Hong Kong, the Xinhua News Agency reported on July 26.
The Xinhua report also noted that the travelling time between Guangzhou and Hong Kong will be shortened from about two hours currently to about 48 minutes.
According to Chen, as many as eight expert panels are participating in the preliminary work on the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong Express Rail Link's Hong Kong section, and they are seizing "every minute and second" to do relevant work.
