Hong Kong-based MTR Corp (MTRC) and Guangshen Railway Co, a subsidiary of China Railway Construction Corp (CRCC), are jointly bidding for the HS2 high-speed rail project.
The route will run from London to Birmingham, domestic news site thepaper.cn reported on Monday.
The duo is one of the top three candidates for the deal, according to the report.
This is the first overseas cooperation project for the companies since they signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement at the end of last year, MTRC Chairman Frederick Ma Si-hang told media.
The railway will put two-thirds of the UK population within two hours to London, the report noted.
