Wang Jianlin remains richest person in Asia with $31.3 bln: Forbes

Wang Jianlin, chairman of Dalian Wanda Group, retained his title as the richest man in Asia with a fortune of $31.3 billion, beating Li Ka-shing's fortune by $100 million, according to Forbes' latest list of the richest people in China, which it released Monday.

At total of 486 Chinese billionaires appeared on the Forbes 2017 Billionaires List, representing 23.8 percent of the total. There were 116 more Chinese billionaires on the list than in 2015. Sixty-nine percent of the billionaires come from the Chinese mainland, 14 percent from Hong Kong and 6 percent from Taiwan.

Wang Jianlin, Li Ka-shing, Jack Ma, Ma Huateng, William Ding, Wang Wei, Thomas and Raymond Kwok, Joseph Lau and Wang Wenyin were the 10 richest Chinese people on the list. Six of the top 10 came from the mainland. The rest came from Hong Kong.

As for the heads of China's three Internet giants, Alibaba's executive chairman Jack Ma's fortune increased 24.67 percent to $28.3 billion. Tencent Holdings CEO Ma Huateng's assets skyrocketed 54.66 percent to $24.9 billion. Baidu founder Li Yanhong fell out of the top 10 this year, as his assets declined about 13 percent to $13.3 billion.

One notable name on the list was Wang Wei, chairman of the delivery services company Shunfeng Express. His fortune soared nearly 280 percent to $15.9 billion after his company was listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange on February 24.

In addition, Guo Taiming, CEO of Taiwan-based Foxconn, became the richest man in Taiwan, with a fortune of $7.5 billion.

According to Forbes, most of the Chinese billionaires on the list worked in the real estate industry, followed by software and Internet, raw materials and electronics.
