A bilingual Tibetan and Mandarin e-commerce website, the first of its kind, went live Friday.

The trading website was produced in and for Gangcha County, Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province, to provide a platform for Tibetans to sell their agricultural products and local specialties, while buyers can change the language into Mandarin when they browse the catalog.

Lhozang, developer of the project, said the county government hoped the platform could boost sales of organic beef and lamb, Tibetan herbs and Thangka (Tibetan scroll painting).

The website was established thanks to a 3 million yuan (446,000 U.S. dollars) grant from the government.

The website also provides access to other items, such as smart gadgets.

Friday also marked the first e-commerce training class for herdsmen in the county.

"More and more locals want to learn about e-commerce. However, many cannot speak Mandarin. The bilingual website can help," said Dorje, deputy governor of the prefecture.
