GM sales in China post record 16-pct growth in Sept.

General Motors Co.(GM) announced on its website Monday that its sales in China grew a record 16-percent to reach 343,773 vehicles in September this year.

Of all brands of the Detroit-based automaker, Cadillac sales in China reached 12,539 units in September, up 63 percent year on year, and totaled 77,000 units in the first nine months of this year, up 35 percent.

Meanwhile, Buick and Baojun also posted record sales in China. Buick sales totaled 108,325 units, up 23 percent; while Baojun sales hit 62,719 units, up 33 percent year on year.

Chevrolet sales were 51,932 units in September, up 2.6 percent. Wuling sales rose 6 percent.

"The growth in demand last month (September) was supported by improving product mix. We saw strong sales momentum across our brand," the Detroit News quoted GM China President Matt Tsien as saying.

China is the largest sales market of GM. The U.S. automaker's sales in China grew 9 percent to reach a record 2.72 million units in the first nine months of this year.
