Cambodian and Chinese companies on Wednesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the construction of a chemical fertilizer plant in southwestern Cambodia's Preah Sihanouk province.

The MoU was inked here between Hann Khieng, managing director of Cambodian Petrochemical Company, and Zhang Jun, chairman of China Huanqiu Contracting and Engineering Corp.

Mao Chettravuth, assistant to Hann Khieng, said the two firms will conduct a feasibility study for the construction of a plant with the capacity of 800,000 tons per year.

"The plant will use wastes from an oil refinery as raw material to produce fertilizer," he said.
