China remained major consumer of Vietnam's farm products in the first three months of 2016, according to a report released by Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) on Tuesday.

China was the largest consumer of Vietnamese rice in the three-month period with 31.54 percent of the market share, said the report.

During the period, Vietnam exported 474,390 tons of rice worth 214.58 million U.S. dollars to China, up 41.78 percent in volume and 61.76 percent in value year-on-year.

Moreover, from January to March, China and India were the two largest importer of Vietnamese rubber, with 61.62 percent of the market share.

Export revenue of Vietnamese rubber to China witnessed a year-on-year increase of 19.47 percent in the first three months.

At the same time, China ranked second in the list of top cashew nut importers of Vietnam in three-month period after the United States, with 18.46 percent of Vietnam's total export revenue of the item.

Meanwhile, in the January-March period, China sat at the third places among Vietnam's major consumers of wood and wood products, said MARD.

Also, China ranked third in the list of Vietnam's main seafood importers and experienced a sharp growth of 33.18 percent year-on-year in revenue.

In the first three months, China imported the most cassava and related products from Vietnam, making up 87.39 percent of the market share.

However, exports of Vietnamese cassava and products to China witnessed a year-on-year decrease of 15.86 percent in volume and 29.31 percent in value, said the ministry.

According to MARD's report, Vietnam is likely to earn some 10.02 billion U.S. dollars from agro-forestry-fishery exports in the first four months of 2016, up 11 percent year-on-year.

In 2016, the country targets farm export revenue of 31 billion U.S. dollars.
