China Three Gorges Corporation has signed a contract with Guinea to build a new hydropower station for the western African nation.

The Souapiti hydropower plant will have an installed capacity of 450-thousand kilowatts.

The contract is worth 1.4 billion U.S. dollars and construction is expected to take around five years.

The Kaleta hydroelectric power station, the company's first project in Guinea, saw its first generating unit go into operation in 2015.
