Chang Xiaobing, chairman of China Telecom, is being investigated for suspected serious disciplinary offenses, the Communist Party of China Central Commission for Discipline Inspection said on its official website on Sunday.

The investigation comes as the central authorities continue an anti-graft campaign, which targets officials and senior executives at State-owned enterprises.

China Telecom had been scheduled to hold its annual work meeting on Monday. It was on late Saturday that senior executives at China Telecom received the notice that the meeting would be delayed due to Chang's disappearance, according to a report published Sunday on financial news portal caijing.com.cn.

A photo showing that Chang's office had been sealed was also posted by caijing.com.cn, which cited unidentified sources at China Telecom for the report.

It was in August that Chang took the helm as chairman at China Telecom. Before that, he was the chairman of China Unicom, where he had worked for 11 years. The caijing report suggested that Chang's investigation had something to do with his tenure at China Unicom.

According to an announcement by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission in August, China Unicom and China Telecom were ordered to swap their top leaders, with Chang heading to China Telecom while China Telecom's former chairman Wang Xiaochu took over China Unicom.
