Owing to the energy saving and eco-friendly features as well as the excellent performance of its electric up! model, Volkswagen Group Import China has been recognized as a "2015 China Low-Carbon Model".

The award was given at the opening ceremony of the sixth "Low-carbon Development, Green Livelihood" exhibition, which has the theme of "Low-carbon, making life greener." The exhibition opening and "2015 China Low-Carbon Model" awards ceremony was held at the Grand Hyatt Beijing on Thursday.

The annual event was organized by the China News Service and China Newsweek under the guidance of the National Commission of Development and Reform, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, the State Council Information Office, and the Beijing municipal government, with the aim of popularizing low-carbon practices and promoting a green lifestyle.

Volkswagen Import displayed its first pure electric vehicle, the electric up!, at the exhibition from Thursday through Monday.

Launched by Volkswagen Import in China last year, electric up! meets the individual transportation needs of a new generation of consumers who are environmentally aware, fashion-conscious, tech-savvy and socially responsible.

"The Volkswagen Import electric up! marks a new trend of green mobility," said Till Scheer, managing director of Volkswagen Import. "It is a pioneer in e-mobility, offering Volkswagen's most advanced green technologies. It therefore brings excellent driving pleasure and the ultimate experience of environmental protection.

"Consumers will find that our products make their lives more convenient and more fun, while also making them more 'green'."

The electric up! has a futuristic design featuring diamond-cut headlights, fashionable C-shaped LED daytime running lights, and 15-inch aerodynamically optimized alloy wheels. Every detail underlines the special features and German engineering, as well as expressing its driver's progressive and unique lifestyle.

The model is the first pure electric vehicle from Volkswagen Import in China, with an average electricity consumption of only 12.1 kWh per 100 kilometers.

It boasts a top range of 160 km, sufficient to meet most customers' daily commuting needs. The electric up! can temporarily turn off unneeded energy-consuming functions, delivering zero carbon emissions, zero fuel consumption and zero noise while driving, and setting a new energy efficiency benchmark for electric vehicles.

The electric up! is also fitted with a compact and powerful 60 Kw electric motor generating 210 Nm of torque, with a lithium ion battery and power electronics integrated with the chassis to provide a steady output of power to drive the vehicle.

The powerful electric power train allows electric up! to go from zero to 100 km/h in only 12.4 seconds, and reach a top speed of 130 km/h, offering a thrilling driving experience.

Moreover, the standard electric up! configuration includes a leather steering wheel, air conditioning, onboard entertainment system and adjustable sliding/slanting panoramic sunroof.

The electric up! provides driving pleasure with maximum environmental care, making it a true "urban electric leader".

Combining eco-friendliness, urban mobility and trendy design, it meets almost all the hopes consumers have for electric cars-being practical, safe and economical.

The electric up! provides not only a scientific and sensible transport solution, it is also a stable and viable pioneer for Volkswagen Import. In addition, it highlights the company's commitment to meeting the needs of Chinese consumers for individual transportation.

The electric up! is available at two dealers, one in Beijing and one in Shanghai.
