Invest Hong Kong signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Thailand Board of Investment, pledging mutual cooperation on investment promotion exchanges and best practices, it said on Thursday.

According to the MOU, both sides will exchange information on the investment environment and investment opportunities. It will promote investment between the two places and the sharing of experience in attracting foreign investment as well as best practices.

The two sides will also encourage interested companies to set up or expand businesses in the other jurisdiction.

Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government Gregory So said Thai companies can make use of Hong Kong to tap into the vast market on the Chinese mainland, while Hong Kong companies can make use of Thailand to capture opportunities in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations region.

Thai Deputy Prime Minister Pridiyathorn Devakula said Hong Kong is a global and regional business center with business people and companies from all over the world investing in the city, and Thailand likewise can be regarded as ASEAN's center, a regional trading and investment hub in Southeast Asia.

The signing of the MOU will induce and promote increasing investment cooperation between Hong Kong and Thailand, he said.
